Let’s Keep Socorro Clean! Bosque Clean-up at Otero Park

Youth

The event was hosted by Breanne Lucero, Land of Enchantment Young Ambassador, with special guest Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, in partnership with the City of Socorro.

The community cleanup was held at Otero Park by the Bosque in Socorro as part of the Keep Litter Out of Our State program and the Great New Mexico Cleanup.

The Bosque Cleanup at Otero Park was part of the #KeepLitterOut campaign and focused on improving the river and bosque area in Socorro. We had 25 volunteers who helped pick up trash and protect this important habitat.

During the event, we collected 45 bags of trash. This helped prevent litter from entering the Rio Grande and irrigation systems, protecting wildlife, water quality, and the local environment. We also had the Governor of New Mexico stop by and help, which showed strong support for our cleanup and the #KeepLitterOut campaign.

A photo collage highlighting a community litter cleanup event in New Mexico. The collage includes several outdoor photographs of volunteers collecting trash in a natural desert and riverside environment. In the largest image, a young girl stands with an older woman holding a microphone while two men in suits look on during what appears to be a community gathering or recognition event. Other photos show adults and youth wearing bright safety vests and using litter grabbers to pick up trash along trails, rocky terrain, and open spaces. The collage also features the “¡Qué linda! Land of Enchantment Young Ambassador Program” logo on the right side. The overall theme emphasizes youth engagement, environmental stewardship, and community beautification efforts.
